Family intervention framework

The Department of Children and Families' family intervention framework supports highly vulnerable children and families.

The department prioritises its support to families where there are concerns about children's safety. This ensures support is provided to the most vulnerable children and families in the community.

The framework has four service streams:

  1. Child safety intervention - for families with low to moderate child safety concerns to prevent future child abuse or neglect.
  2. Intensive family preservation - for families with significant child safety concerns where the risk of placing children in care is high.
  3. Reunification support - for families where a child has been removed and where there are plans to reunify the child with their parents.
  4. Relative and kinship carer support - support to kinship carers and family members who agree to care for a related child who has been placed in care.
