Territory Families provides child protection and out of home care services, and support to vulnerable families and children, in the Northern Territory.

The child protection and out of home care policies listed below govern the delivery of these services and provide essential guidance for our staff.

Working in a statutory agency

These policies are about Territory Families’ authorised officer powers and delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act and how we manage and respond to complaints.

Child protection

These policies are about reporting and investigating cases of child abuse and neglect, undertaking assessments, working collaboratively with the courts and legal systems, income management.

Family support

These policies are about family and parent support services that build a family’s strengths and capacity

Children in care

These policies are about case management of children and young people in out of home care, permanent care orders, family contact, leaving care and after care support, travel, financial supports.

Places of care

These policies are about carer assessment, approval of kinship and foster carers, and placements under the Aboriginal child placement principle.

Practice information

These are supplementary policies including case transfers, reportable incidents, managing client information, victims of crime, and worker safety.
