YORET turns one

Our Youth Outreach and Re-Engagement Teams are celebrating their milestone first anniversaries across the Territory.

“In the past 12-months Youth Outreach and Re-Engagement Teams across the Territory have contributed to the work being undertaken with vulnerable young people in our community,” Kelly Cooper, Senior Director of Community Youth Justice Programs said.

“Our staff build trust and rapport with vulnerable youth and assist them to engage in education, pro-social activities and programs tailored to address their individual needs,” she said.

“We also work closely with our partners in the non-Government sector and Aboriginal controlled organisations.”

The birthday breakfast morning for the Palmerston team was an acknowledgement and thanks for their commitment to making a difference and for taking up the challenging but rewarding role to find more effective ways to keep young people out of the youth justice system.

In Alice Springs the YOREOs fired up the barbeque for a function with young people, Government and NGO stakeholders.

“Our future will continue to be an evolving service with a focus on providing the best possible opportunities for young people in our community to address their unmet needs and go on to make better choices for their future,” Kelly said.
