Territory Families celebrates emergency relief teams in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Marcus.
Territory Families is proud to acknowledge and thank the hard work and dedication of the staff and volunteers who have assisted with the welfare recovery effort in the wake of Cyclone Marcus.
The Welfare Group team consisting of more than 100 Territory Families staff and other Northern Territory Government employees, and staff and volunteers from Non-Government Organisations have worked together tirelessly across the weekends and into the night to assist Territorians who were left without power and in some instances unable to stay in their homes after Tropical Cyclone Marcus.
“The Northern Territory has experienced two emergency events this year with the Daly River Floods and Cyclone Marcus; our team has excelled every time in preparing for such events and assisting in the recovery phase”, Mr Ken Davies, Chief Executive Officer of Territory Families said.
“Our outreach and welfare recovery teams have handed out food parcels, fielded questions and processed applications for the immediate relief payments assisting people who lost electricity during Cyclone Marcus.”
“We have received over 5,000 applications to date for immediate relief payments and we have worked through applications as quickly as possible, approving payments to over 1000 people so far. We have staff across Government who have themselves been affected by the cyclone working 12 hour shifts to process payments as quickly as possible.”
The efforts of the teams have not gone unrecognised, with compliments received though Territory Families from members of the community praising the patience and support that has been provided at the centres. The dedicated teams going over and beyond to help people to complete forms and making the necessary follow up calls to ensure applications could be processed.
As most households are now re-connected to power relief payment processing times are expected to speed up, however we do still ask people to be patient before following up, as staff are working hard to process the payments.
The relief payments forms are available for download from Secure NT here.
People are encouraged to email their application forms to TF.WelfareAssessment@nt.gov.au
