Foster and kinship carers are superheroes
More than 70 couples and individuals who provide foster and kinship care for Northern Territory children were recently recognised as foster care superheroes at award ceremonies across the NT.
The Foster and Kinship Carer Excellence Awards acknowledge the foster and kinship families, young people and Territory Families staff, who make a meaningful difference to children’s lives across the Territory.
This year, the seventh time the awards have been held, 133 foster and kinship carers across the NT were nominated for their outstanding work. Awards were presented to 32 people, with another 40 people recognised with highly commended awards.
As well as the awards themselves, everyone who attended a ceremony were presented with a specially-made, bright red superhero cape to highlight the special qualities demonstrated by those who dedicate their lives to helping the Territory’s children.
The awards were a joint effort between Territory Families, Foster Carers Association NT and CREATE foundation. Ceremonies were held in Darwin, Nhulunbuy, Katherine and Alice Springs.
