Community consultation begins on review of NT concessions scheme
Have your say about changes to the NT Pensioner and Carer Concession Scheme
Public consultation has begun on all aspects of the NT Pensioner and Carer Concession Scheme.
Approximately 20,000 Territorians currently receive a benefit from the concession scheme, which provides members with financial subsidies on a range of goods and services to assist with the cost of living. This includes fees for vehicle registration and drivers licence, electricity and water bills, property, sewerage and garbage rates and spectacles.
However the scheme is open to exploitation, is complex and expensive to manage and is unfair to many.
The review aims to make the scheme fairer, more flexible, more efficient to manage and sustainable over the long term.
Territory Families, which administers the scheme, has produced a discussion paper outlining the issues and includes a number of specific questions or suggested changes for people to consider when formulating their ideas.
All Territorians who have an interest in the scheme are invited to read the discussion paper and provide their feedback on the issues raised.
To get a copy of the discussion paper and provide feedback, go to the Have Your Say website.
Consultation closes on August 31.
