Check out the International Women's Day events calendar
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world each year on 8 March, and the Northern Territory will be joining in with a vibrant array of activities and events to recognise the many achievements and contributions of Territory women past and present.
International Women’s Day grew out of the struggle by women around the world for better working conditions and the right to vote into a movement that sought equality and justice for all women. It is a time to celebrate progress and reflect on changes and advancements that still need to be made.
Territory Families’ Office of Women’s Policy provides a grant funding pool of $20 000 to assist Northern Territory community organisations host events to celebrate the day.
Activities will range from marches, dinners, film nights and wellbeing forums to workshops that aim to develop a new generation of female comedians. Other activities include forums which will focus on strengthening cultural connections within migrant and Aboriginal communities.
The NT Government has also partnered with City of Darwin and the United Nations Association of Australia NT to bring you the Darwin 2017 International Women’s Day march on Saturday 11 March 2017. Please join us at 9am at the steps of Parliament House and walk a short route through the Darwin CBD. Entertainment, inspirational speakers and festivities will follow the walk in the main hall of Parliament House.
