Apply for a harmony grant to celebrate diversity
Applications are now open for community groups and schools around the Northern Territory to apply for grants to support and celebrate community harmony and diversity.
If you have an idea for an event or activity that celebrates and promotes the Northern Territory's cultural diversity, you can now apply for a grant to turn your idea into reality.
You can apply for up to $1000 for an acitivity that is either a stand-alone event at any time of the year, or an event associated with Harmony Day which is celebrated at the end of May each year. Harmony Day also coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Territory Families CEO, Ken Davies, said Harmony Day was a good reminder that everybody belongs, and was about encouraging respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
“This is an important topic, and Territory Families is committed to supporting increased social inclusion and participation within the community from each of our diverse cultural groups.
“Along with Harmony Day, Territory Families also supports the work of the Minister’s Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs to achieve practical solutions to ensure every Territorian feels valued and respected.”
The popular Harmony Soiree at the Darwin Waterfront will return in May 2018, and is a partnership between the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Darwin Waterfront Corporation, the Multicultural Council of the NT and Darwin Community Arts.
Planning is also underway for the 2018 Alice Springs Big Day Out in Harmony event, which is being organised by the Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia. Eligible organisations can apply for a Harmony Grant to support their participation in this event.
This year, Harmony grants were awarded to 31 schools and community groups throughout the Northern Territory for a wide range of activities, including learning languages, exploring the art of calligraphy, cultural performances, food festivals, storytelling and concerts.
Applications close 31 October 2017.
