Safety is Everyone’s Right Final Performance Report
Final Performance Report: The Northern Territory Domestic and Family Violence Reduction Strategy 2014-2017 ‘Safety is Everyone’s Right’
The Northern Territory Domestic and Family Violence Reduction Strategy 2014-2017 ‘Safety is Everyone’s Right’ was launched in September 2014 and was a joint strategy between the Northern Territory and the Australian Governments. To implement the Strategy, the Australian and Northern Territory Governments provided funding over three years which ceased on 30 June 2017.
The Strategy recognised an integrated response to domestic and family violence where NT Government agencies and non-government organisations made a commitment to work collaboratively to improve the safety of women and children, and to support people who use violence to take responsibility for their behaviour, and to change that behaviour.
Nine NT Government agencies worked in partnership to develop the Strategy and was initially led by the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice and following machinery of government changes, concluded with Territory Families.
Key Components of the Safety is Everyone’s Right Strategy included:
- An integrated response
- The Family Safety Framework
- Strengthened Non-Government Organisation services
- A centralised referral system – SupportLink
Following cessation of Safety is Everyone’s Right, the Northern Territory Government launched the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018 - 2028 Safe, Respected and Free from Violence in December 2017. This Framework represents the Northern Territory’s ten year commitment to implement measures that will reduce and prevent further domestic, family and sexual violence within the Northern Territory.
