Aboriginal Carers for Aboriginal Children Grants

Territory Families is inviting Aboriginal organisations to submit proposals to identify and support kinship carers in the Northern Territory.

The Northern Territory Government will provide $4.2 million over four years to recruit and support Aboriginal kinship and foster carers through Aboriginal Carers Growing up Aboriginal Children grants.

Funding is available for Aboriginal controlled organisations across the Territory to help identify family or other suitable Aboriginal carers for children through community-informed and community-led initiatives which provide culturally appropriate support.

Organisations can apply for a single one-off grant of up to $200,000 to develop a comprehensive, technically sound and evidence-based service model focused on enabling more Aboriginal children in care to be placed with Aboriginal foster and kinship carers in the Northern Territory.

A second stream of funding of up to $150,000 each in the Top End and Central Australia is available for two service delivery pilot grants. These pilot grants will improve outcomes for Aboriginal children already in care while the comprehensive service design is being developed.

Organisations who are successful in their funding applications will focus on improvements in two key areas:

  • Finding and recruiting Aboriginal kinship and foster carers for Aboriginal children in care
  • Supporting Aboriginal kinship and foster carers so they are more informed, equipped, valued and enabled to care for children and young people, and to maintain a stable placement for as long as required.

Information Sessions

Information sessions will be held in Darwin on Tuesday 28 August and in Alice Springs on Wednesday 29 August.

Details will be confirmed soon.
